South Africa as a Tourist Destination
Table Mountain

South Africa is one of the most diverse countries in the world, and also one of the world’s most popular and beautiful tourist destinations where visitors will experience affordable holiday experiences – anything from beach holidays to wildlife safari or history and cultural experiences, to adventure filled thrills!.

Visitors can choose accommodation ranging from backpackers facilities, B & B’s, guest houses to luxurious world-class hotels and game lodges. In fact anything to suite your pocket and in the environment you are looking for.

Our currency exchange also makes South Africa an extremely viable destination for travellers!

Weather is another influencing factor and we fall in the top ten countries worldwide when one compares the average number of sunny days per annum.

Wildlife Safari

South Africa is home to the Big Five namely buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion and rhino as well as a huge number of other animal, bird and plant species. The Kruger National Park is possibly the country’s most popular draw card for game viewing but South Africa also boasts a huge collection of wildlife regions and game parks – both private and public – offering visitors’ unimaginable landscapes from deserts and forests to mountains and coastlines.

Soak up the sun on our Beaches

South African beaches offer the ultimate destination for relaxation and fun in the sun. We have beaches for family-friendly fun, beaches where visitors will see our African Penguins, beaches offering whale watching, as well as beaches that offer diving, snorkelling, canoeing, water skiing, canoeing and much more!

We have some of the most pristine beaches in the world and our blue flag beaches are on a par with the best beaches in the world. These beaches, which are located along the extensive 3200km coast line, operate according to strict ethics that honour the environment as well as the visitors who make use of the facilities.

We have 41 beaches with blue flag status with several others in the pilot phase.

33 criteria covering 4 aspects of coastal management have to be met – water quality, environments education and information, environmental management, and safety and services.

Conceived in France in 1985, the Blue Flag programme is a recognised international accreditation initiative that acknowledges excellence in maintaining the highest standards of environmental management, safety, services and amenities.

South Africa was the first country, outside of Europe, to introduce the Blue Flag programme in November 2001. Blue Flag beaches are awarded seasonally, and can be withdrawn at short notice should qualifying criteria not be fulfilled.

The Cape Winelands is home to many renowned Cape wines - the produce of row upon row of grapevines, many of which were first planted hundreds of years ago.

The rich, fertile soils in the area have become world famous for their whites, reds, sherries, ports and brandies.

Franschoek, Stellenbosch, Paarl amongst others are set in the most beautiful picturesque surroundings in the world and ooze hospitality and charm.

Visitors will be able to experience wine making tours, wine tasting and the superb cuisine of the area.

Most estates are characterised by Cape Dutch-style buildings and massive vineyards with the magnificent mountains as a backdrop.

History and Culture

South African history and cultural tours provide the perfect platform for any visitor who wants to gain an insight into the country’s complex, yet interesting, past and culture. Visitors can visit ancient landscapes, explore cultural villages and learn more about the many layers that have come to form the essence of our society.

You will be able to visit the site where the famous skull of Mrs Pleas was found in the Cradle of Humankind, visit the famous Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was jailed during apartheid and learn more about the various cultures that make up our rainbow nation of today.
